Nile star bus enroute from Arua to Kampala catches fire between Nwoya and Pakwach district.

O n Wednesday morning, a joint Ash Wednesday and Valentines Day, a bus belonging to Nile Star Bus Company destined for Kampala from Arua District in West Nile blew up in flames on Wednesday morning over yet to be established reasons.

The Nile star bus reportedly left Arua in the wee hours of Wednesday morning but its journey ended abruptly upon reaching Kololo a place which is found between Nwoya and Pakwach district when passengers were asked to vacate it after developing a mechanical problem.

By press time, Mimi Hamid, the Nile Star Bus General Manager said all the 55 passengers who wer travelling with their bus were evacuated with no injuries and their belongings were safe too although some property were burnt due to lack of enough fire extinguishers.

He added that in the meanwhile, the company has organized for a substitute bus in partnership with California bus company to take on the passengers for the remaining journey whose journey has been halted as investigations into the cause of the incident takes charge.

A police officer at the scene who requested for anonymity was at loggerheads with the administrators of the bus and the bus driver for the lack of enough fire extinguishers because it's blamed for the fire incident.

According to the police officer, the problem could have been avoided if there was four big fire extinguishers.
