Teachers of Labongo Layamo Seeds Secondary School in Labongo Layamo Subcounty, Kitgum district are currently struggling to obtain and make learning content for their students as the school has stayed without any supply of textbooks for the new lower secondary school curriculum from the government.
According to Mr Akena Moses Alvin, the acting headteacher of Labongo Layamo Seeds Secondary School, the school never received a single textbook from the government of Uganda since its establishment three years ago. He adds that teachers are now pushed to borrow books from other schools in order to make schemes of work and lesson plans.
He further told our reporter that the school is also faced with a challenge of teaching computer practical lessons as they do not have a single computer to facilitate its learning.
He says that the teachers have tried their best to deliver the computer theory lessons although the subject is practically examinable by the Uganda National Examination Board.
However, most of the schools our reporter visited on day one of the school reopening have registered low enrollment of learners and these include Lagotcugu primary school, Madi Opei primary school, Archbishop Janani Luwum Memorial College, Kwoncok primary school and Odunglee primary school among others.
